GOOD DAY SGMHA MEMBERS,
First of all I would like to wish a belated Happy Mother’s Day to all the fantastic hockey moms in our association!
I would like to introduce myself to all of you, my name is Mike Watt. I am very excited and honoured to take over the role as President for SGMHA. I have been a member of our association’s board going on 6 years now. It has been an extremely rewarding experience working with both our current and past board members. I am looking forward to representing our association.
As everyone is fully aware, these are very exceptional times in our lives. Our board is working extremely hard to prepare for these unusual circumstances. One thing we have already implemented is to open our registration early this year, May 15th. We have done this to enable all of our member families to be able to spread payments out over four (4) installments opposed to the regular three (3). Please do not hesitate to reach out to the office if you require further help for alternative payment methods. We are here to help you. Our goal is to try everything possible to get our kids back on the ice. We are also currently working on contingency plans for various starts to the season. We will do our best to share these with you, but as you all know everything changes and evolves at a rapid pace. Hockey as we know it may look very different this coming season. We will do everything we can to make sure your children are safe, while they continue to play the game we all love.
We are also currently planning our AGM. This meeting is going to be held virtually on June 15th, more details to follow. Now more than ever we require some great people to fill positions on our board. If you’ve ever thought about stepping up please do not hesitate. Check out the AGM Tab on SGMHA website for further information regarding the upcoming AGM and for any available Executive positions.
Although, we do not know whether our season will start on time, or how it will look, there has been some exciting new changes offered by EFHL. EFHL is the league, which all of our teams currently play in. This coming season they are launching a recreational hockey league. This league will be an affordable option for players looking to have more freedom of schedule. We will post more details on our website. SGMHA currently does not offer this option, but can definitely help point you in the right direction if it is something you are interested in. As it is a new, and just announced option, we will work hard to get this instituted into our program for the 21/22 season.
I would like to acknowledge the hard work of our outgoing president Christy Rake. Her leadership and guidance of our association for the past 5 years has been outstanding. I have big shoes to fill, but am looking forward to the challenge. Thank you Christy for everything.
Minor hockey in Spruce Grove is a huge passion of mine. My family moved to Spruce Grove in 1980. I played with SGMHA from then until my final year of midget hockey. I have now been involved in coaching my own kids within this association for the past 10 years. This association is something I am very proud of and has been a huge part of my life. I will continue to work hard to maintain its excellent reputation and continue to make it one of the strongest in the province. Looking forward to the road ahead.
Yours in hockey,
