SGMHA Atom Director: Ryan Polak

SGMHA New Articles

No news currently found.

Please double check the date, time, and location for your child's group. They are on 3 separate dates and locations.

Please check volunteer list and contact me for what spot you can fill. I've been overwhelmed by offers of support, it's been tough to track. If you have already offered to fill a volunteer role please contact me.

Sunday Groups

It will likely be pretty late this evening for new groups to be posted. I am currently working on them but I am a few hours out.

Please help me out when new groups are up. Current volunteer list for next day will be posted at the same time. Please email immediately about which spots you can help.

Volunteer spots for Saturday are pretty much full, except for group 5. I am still short 6 volunteers. If you are at the rink and willing to help, please let me know.

If you are willing to volunteer on the Sunday as well, for any group, please let me know.

Scrimmages begin this weekend. Your child's new group is posted below. Due to the new skill session, there are a few surprises. The game play in scrimmages will very quickly begin to correct any misplaced players. Please remember that this is only a starting point, and that each player's skill score is only a small part of their final score, scrimmages is the overwhelming majority. I posted more information below, see "evaluation scoring" if you are interested in more info. Both goalies and skaters we're placed in first scrimmage groupings solely of off their scores from skill sessions.

After each scrimmage new groups will be posted. Please check in advance. New groups for Saturday are posted below, see "Scrimmage #1 groups".

I've asked my evaluators this year to watch closely for hockey IQ and teamwork. Player's that play selfishly on the ice will not receive full scores. It is a team game, we are looking for team players.

Balancing positions and teams for scrimmages is very difficult. Even though teams this year will not be filled by a 9 forward, 6 defence formula, I am trying to allow each kid to tryout in their preferred position. I can not guarantee this to every player. Players who selected "any" for their preferred position will be moved back and forth from game to game. I am keeping group 5 open for now as most of those kids selected "any" for their position. I will ask bench staff to deploy them fairly, but please keep in mind that is a very difficult job.

Some groups have uneven numbers, most groups have 3 goalies. I will attempt to ensure each group takes turns having more players. As for goalies, when there is 3 goalies, each goalie will play 40 mins total, and play 20 with each team. With 4 goalies, each will play 30 mins, 15 on each team.

First off, thanks to all the volunteers, but in particular to:

Aaron Kaplan, Shane Boulter, Mike Watt, Blair Scott, Chad Haug, Dan Rychlik, Ryan Harrison, Gord Corbett, Kevin Schroeder, and Rob Kusmire. All 10 were on the ice for every single skill session to ensure consistency. 6 hours of mind and feet numbing work from all of them. I'm extremely happy with today's results, and there is zero chance it happens without the sacrifices of these men.

New groupings should be posted by Tuesday. A clarification as some were confused on this, alphabetical groupings were only for the skill session today. All groupings moving forward will be skill based.

I look forward to seeing all the goalies out tomorrow night.
